Be advised that anytime you modify the registry, you should back up the registry first. Making modifications to the registry can cause your computer to act in an unpredictable manner, including making your computer unable to boot.

Back Up the Registry (All Versions of Windows)
1. Click the Start button, and choose Run.
2. In the Open field, type regedit.
3. Click the OK button.
4. From the Registry menu, choose Export Registry File.
5. Click the down arrow on the Save in drop-down list and choose the location you would like to save the file to (Desktop in this example).
6. In the File name field, type a name for your back up (feb24 in this example).
7. In the Save as drop-down list, chose Registration Files.
8. Click the All radio button in the Export range area.
9. Click the Save button.

Registry Tweaks for Windows 98/ME Registry Tweaks for Windows 98/ME

1. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive so that its contents are shown. 2. Click the plus sign next to System key so that its contents are shown.
3. Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet subkey so that its contents are shown.
4. Click the plus sign next to Services subkey so that its contents are shown.
5. Click the plus sign next to VxD subkey so that its contents are shown.
6. Click on the MSTCP subkey with your right mouse button, then click New and choose String Value.
7. Type DefaultRcvWindow to name the new String Value.
8. Click on DefaultRcvWindow with your right mouse button and choose Modify.
9. In the Value Data field, type 64240.
10. Click the OK button.
11. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive so that its contents are shown.
12. Click the plus sign next to System key so that its contents are shown.
13. Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet subkey so that its contents are shown.
14. Click the plus sign next to Services subkey so that its contents are shown.
15. Click the plus sign next to Class subkey so that its contents are shown.
16. Click the plus sign next to NetTrans subkey so that its contents are shown.
17. Click on the 000n subkey with your right mouse button, then click New and choose String Value.
18. Type MaxMTU to name the new String Value.
19. Click on MaxMTU with your right mouse button and choose Modify.
20. In the Value Data field, type 1492 for DSL, 1500 for Cable.
21. Click the OK button.

Registry Tweaks for Windows 2000/XP

1. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive so that its contents are shown. 2. Click the plus sign next to System key so that its contents are shown.
3. Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet subkey so that its contents are shown.
4. Click the plus sign next to Services subkey so that its contents are shown.
5. Click the plus sign next to Tcpip subkey so that its contents are shown.
6. Click the plus sign next to Parameters subkey so that its contents are shown.
7. Click on Parameters with your right mouse button, then click New and choose DWORD Value.
8. Type GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize to name the new DWORD Value.
9. Click on GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize with your right mouse button and choose Modify.
10. Choose the Decimal radiobutton.
11. In the Value Data field, type 256960.
12. Click the OK button.
13. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive so that its contents are shown.
14. Click the plus sign next to System key so that its contents are shown.
15. Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet subkey so that its contents are shown.
16. Click the plus sign next to Services subkey so that its contents are shown.
17. Click the plus sign next to Tcpip subkey so that its contents are shown.
18. Click the plus sign next to Parameters subkey so that its contents are shown.
19. Click on Parameters with your right mouse button, then click New and choose DWORD Value.
20. Type tcp13230pts to name the new DWORD Value.
21. Click on tcp13230pts with your right mouse button and choose Modify.
22. Choose the Hexidecimal radio button.
23. In the Value Data field, type 1.
24. Click the OK button.
