How To: Release and Renew IP Address in Windows Vista

Renewing the IP address of a computer allows you to repair the computer’s IP address from the router. This will allow you to discard the current IP address of the wired computer and acquire a new one.
The following steps will guide yo on how you can release and renew your IP address using windows vista.

Click the Pearl button
located at the bottom left of the screen and on the Start Search type “command prompt”, then press [Enter].
Step 2:
Under Programs, right-click Command Prompt then select Run as administrator.
NOTE: If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.
Step 3:
When the MS DOS Prompt appears, type “ipconfig/release” then press [Enter].
Step 4:
Right-click this icon
then select Network and Sharing Center.
Step 5:
Under Network and Sharing Center, click Manage network connections.
NOTE: If the User Access Control window appears, click Continue.
Step 6:
Right-click Local Area Connection, then Status.
Step 7:
When the Local Area Connection Status window appears, click Details.
Step 8:
Make sure the Autoconfiguration IPv4 is within the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP segment.
Step 9:
Once the IP address becomes 169.xxx.xxx.xxx, open the command prompt window and type “ipconfig/renew” then press [Enter].
