How To: Check if your connected to the internet using Windows Vista.

How do you check when you are online or connected to the internet. When checking if you’re online you need to perform two steps:

Pinging a Website
-
Accessing a Website
Pinging a Website
To check the computer’s connection to the Internet, ensure that you are getting valid replies when you perform a ping test. Please follow the steps below on how to ping a website.
Step 1:
Click the Pearl buttonlocated at the bottom left corner of the screen and on the Start Search type “command prompt”, then press [Enter].
Step 2:
When the Command Prompt appears, type “ping linksys.com” then press [Enter].
Step 3:
See if you’re getting 4 replies, Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss).
NOTE: If you are not getting replies when trying to ping the router, you need to check the computer’s IP address. For instructions, click here.
Accessing a Website
After the router has been configured properly, check your Internet Explorer to see if it is working correctly. To check if the Internet connection is running, open a web browser such as Internet Explorer and go to http://www.linksys.com
